About IELTS Academic
¿What is The IELTS Academic?
The IELTS Academic It is a standardized test of English proficiency, designed primarily for those who wish to study in English-speaking academic environments or work in professions that require a high level of English (e.g., medicine or nursing). IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is an internationally recognized exam accepted by numerous educational institutions, employers, professional organizations, and immigration authorities worldwide.
The exam assesses four competencies: Listening (Listening Comprehension), Reading (Reading), Writing (Writing) and Speaking (Oral expression).
Listening
Duration: 30 minutes · Number of questions: 40 · Format: 4 parts
The candidate listens to recordings in English (everyday conversations, lectures, or academic conferences) and answers questions that measure understanding of main ideas, specific details, and the identification of the speaker's attitudes or opinions.
Reading
Duration: 60 minutes · Number of questions: 40 (based on three texts)
The candidate reads three academic texts (from books, magazines, newspapers, or studies) and answers questions that assess overall understanding, identification of key details, following logical arguments, and recognizing the author's point of view.
Writing
Duration: 60 minutes · Tasks: 2 (Task 1 and Task 2)
In the Task 1 information presented in a graph, table or diagram is described or explained (minimum 150 words). In the Task 2 An essay is written in response to a point of view, argument, or problem (minimum 250 words). Clarity in the presentation of ideas, linguistic precision and coherence, and logical organization of the text are assessed.
Speaking
Duration: 11–14 minutes · Structure: 3-part interview
Face-to-face interview with a certified examiner. Includes general questions about the candidate and familiar topics; a 1–2-minute presentation on an assigned topic; and a more abstract and in-depth discussion related to that topic. Assesses the ability to communicate effectively in English.
Scores
Each section is graded on a scale of 1 to 9 (band score). The overall score IELTS Academic is the average of the four sections.
