Something about the ranking

Every year, we meet a number of applicants who come to us and ask for our help to apply only to the top 5 schools, their choice being simply based on the position of those schools in the rankings. This is evidently a very poor way of selecting your ideal business school, and we strongly encourage the applicants to look beyond the rankings.

In the same way that you shouldn’t get married to someone simply because you like his/her picture and receive favorable opinions about this person from your friends, an MBA should not be chosen on base of its good-looking brochure and high ranking. Every MBA is very different, and offers you a very distinctive experience, both in the classroom and as an alumnus. If, for example, you plan to live your entire professional life in Spain, certain top US-MBAs are not right for you, as they do not have a wide network outside of Madrid. If your focus is on doing business with Asia, you should probably look at universities on the US West Coast where the proportion of Asian students is much higher.

Rankings are simply a reflection on how the MBA programmes are judged by a group of stakeholders, from students to alumni to employers. At Tecnicas Linguisticas Aplicadas, we encourage applicants to create their own ranking based on their own objectives. Once you visit the schools and start understanding how much they differ from each other, you will be surprised at how your personal ranking differs from the published ones. Making this effort is one of the necessary steps toward being accepted, as every year we witness perfectly capable applicants being denied entry simply because they do not know well enough the schools they are applying to.

Our coaches are available for individual sessions at our centre; they also coach by telephone or by means of internet (e-mail and voice). We encourage you to see for yourself the many ways in which our coaches can help you to present a winning application to the business schools of your choice. You will discover how much difference the advice of an expert can bring.

We welcome you to consult with our experienced advisers and coaches to define better the schools that are right for you. Please give us a call or visit us for more information about how successfully to create your own personal ranking of MBA programmes.
